“There is neither creation nor destruction,
neither destiny nor free will, neither
path nor achievement.
This is the final truth.”
Ramana Maharshi
Be as You Are
You have to keep up the enquiry, 'To whom is this happening?' all the time. If you are having trouble remind yourself, 'This is just happening on the surface of my mind. I am not this mind or the wandering thoughts.' Then go back into enquiry 'Who am I?'. By doing this you will penetrate deeper and deeper and become detached from the mind. This will only come about after you have made an intense effort." ~Annamalai Swami
The 'I' is the ego and you're trying to annihilate the ego. You want to get rid of the ego totally and completely. The ego has to be annihilated, totally annihilated, totally destroyed. And this is how you destroy it by inquiring: "To whom do these thoughts come? They come to me. Who is me. Who am I?" Keep still, that is all you have to do." ~Robert Adams
REALITY is like the paper; the print is like the people, places and things on the paper. Only, you are the paper, and you identify with the paper, and you KNOW you’re the paper, and the print has nothing to do with you. It cannot influence you or do anything to you, for you know that without you, there’s no Universe. There’s no ink, there are no words, there is no alphabet, no alphabetical letters. You have become free.” Robert Adams
Your duty is to be and not to be this or that. ‘I am that I am’ sums up the whole truth. The method is summed up in the words ‘Be still’. What does stillness mean? It means destroy yourself. Because any form or shape is the cause for trouble. Give up the notion that ‘I am so and so’. All that is required to realize the Self is to be still. What can be easier than that?”
Realization is not acquisition of anything new nor it is a new faculty. It is only removal of all camouflage.
Look at the direct experience of this present moment, and notice that there is nothing lacking. If it seems something is lacking, notice that this is merely a thought about what should be. Drop the stories.
Forget the little self, always think of divine energy only . Amma.
The foolist endulge in meaningless arguments. Intellectuals engage in gentle conversation. Great sages, however, dwell in silence and tranquility.
There are many schools that tell you, change the negative into a positive, but that's based on the world of relativity. You'll have to experience both, and there will be no end to it. But when there's "silence" in the mind, that means you get rid of all concepts, of all desires, of all needs, of all wants, of all hurts.
The inner silence is self-surrender.
LIVING WITH CONSTANT AWARENESS OF BEING THE CONSCIOUSNESS PRIOR TO THOUGHTS.
Take refuge in Silence. The world will never perturb you if you are well founded upon the tranquility within. In storm and turmoil be calm and silent. The world is a drama. Be a witness, inturned and introspective
As you persevere more and more in the practice of Self-enquiry, the mind acquires increasing strength and power to abide in its Source.
All you have to do is to abandon all memories and expectations. Just keep yourself ready in utter nakedness and nothingness.
Let come what comes, let go what goes. See what remains.
Who am I? Not the body, because it is decaying; not the mind, because the brain will decay with the body; not the personality, nor the emotions, for these also will vanish with death
Devotion complete culminates in knowledge supreme.
The greatest error of a man is to think that he is weak by nature, evil by nature. Every man is divine and strong in his real nature. What are weak and evil are his habits, his desires and thoughts, but not himself.
Our own self-realization is the greatest service we can render the world.
Like the practice of breath control, meditation on the forms of God, repetition of mantras, food restrictions, etc., are but aids for rendering the mind quiescent.
Doubts never end. If one doubt is removed, another takes its place. It is like removing the leaves of a tree one by one. Even if all the leaves are clipped off, new ones grow. The tree itself must be uprooted.
Without understanding yourself, what is the use of trying to understand the world.
All bad qualities centre round the ego. When the ego is gone, Realisation results by itself. There are neither good nor bad qualities in the Self. The Self is free from all qualities. Qualities pertain to the mind only.
When there are thoughts, it is distraction: when there are no thoughts, it is meditation.
The body dies, but the spirit that transcends it cannot be touched by death.
That which comes and goes, rises and sets, is born and dies is the ego. That which always abides, never changes, and is devoid of qualities is the Self.
Actions yield result by the ordinance of God as He wills.
Mind is consciousness which has put on limitations. You are originally unlimited and perfect. Later you take on limitations and become the mind.
If there is anything besides the Self there is reason to fear? Who sees the second? First, the ego arises and sees objects as external. If the ego does not rise, the Self alone exists and there is no second.
God has no resolve; no karma attaches itself to Him.
Even the structure of the atom has been found by the mind. Therefore the mind is subtler than the atom. That which is behind the mind, namely the individual soul, is subtler than the mind.
I am not the perishable body, but the eternal Self.
Suffering turns men towards their creator.
I just realized that I don't have to have an opinion about everything--what a relief!
The wrong knowledge of ` I am the body ~ is the cause of all the mischief. This wrong knowledge must go , that is realisation.
